What is appropriate for the step mother to wear to her step daughters wedding? Her mother is still alive,Ido not expect to play a part in this wedding,but my step daughter is providing a corsage for me.I am now wondering if i am expected to dress a certain way. I was planning on wearing a cocktail like outfit,I am now unsure of the proper etiquette of stepmother of the bride proper dress for this summer wedding.

Hello Louise,

Your planned wardrobe sounds perfect to me. As long as you are not a member of the wedding, you dress according to the degree of formality of the occasion. It would seem that a dressy outfit you would wear to a nice cocktail party is just fine. How sweet of your step daughter to include you with a corsage.
