My son married a girl and she has a son, they just had a baby and I am coming into some money. I wanted to put 1000 in a savings account for him but my son said that she said that she would be pissed if I didn't do the same for the other one so I want to know yes or no?

Dear Dorothy,

If we are speaking of etiquette, your son is way out of line. This is your money. You may do what you wish without anyone's permission.

His wife is also being incredibly rude.

Demanding money from her mother-in-law is unacceptable. You can put money aside for your grandson without announcing it. Many grandparents do just that to keep some family members from being envious, etc.

However, whenever visiting the family, be sure to include all children in the family when giving gifts. The boy is not responsible for his mother's poor manners.
