Retirement party

by Cinderella Michelle

I have been a self employed Housekepper for 8 years. I'd like to have a "retirement" party so I can tell all my clients goodbye at once. Is that tacky? Or should I just leave a Thank you/goodbye letter during their last cleaning?I'd also like to ask for a letter of recommendation for future employment opportunities. Thank you! Cinderella Michelle

A Possible Approach
by: Ms P Etiquette

Hello Michelle~

I have never been asked this question before. Thank you for bringing this to my attention!

Giving oneself a party is tricky and usually only works among the best of friends. Practical etiquette asks that we avoid being boastful and self congratulatory. It also seems as if you are simply leaving their employ and not "retiring" since you will ask for letters of recommendation.

My best advice is to choose your second suggestion. Leave a thank you note that also requests they send you a letter of recommendation for your future employment. Of course you must have already given proper notice. Leaving a note without notice is not suggested.

Good luck to you in your future endeavors.
