OPENING THE DOOR

Hi ! Hello !!

It is understood that its good manners to always open the door for a lady. While the door swings outwards, there is no problem but in the case of a door swinging inwards, what does one do? would the correct move be to step forward before her and open the door in, stepping in and holding it open for her to pass ? or does one just push the door open in a bit and let her push the rest and step in and you follow behind her ?

Opening Doors

Hello BG,

Such an interesting question! When the man opens the door for the woman, he does so to be helpful and show his respect. If the door opens toward you, simply take a step behind the woman and push the door open. This should give you enough leverage to keep it open while she passes through.

I hope this is helpful. It is lovely to hear a man's concern about one of the nicest courtesies.
