The mother of the bride is performing the wedding. Does she take her place as she would being the mother of the bride, then go to the front and wait for the bride to come down the- isle and perform the wedding? Does the step father sit in the row where the mother of the bride would be sitting, so when the bride and groom leave with the wedding party, my husband would go down with me to leave the room?

The logistics of the wedding party seating is arbitrary in this situation. The seating should be done in the least obtrusive way possible in order to keep the focus of the event on the bride and groom. Therefore, you can decide this yourself and feel that your choice is correct.
