Is it proper etiquette to bring a gift for a military retirement? My best friend's husband is retiring from the marines (he's a Colonel) after 30 years.

Personally, I think bringing a small commemorative gift to a special event is always in good taste. However, I am not an expert on military rules of etiquette. While my answer is yes, it would be wise to check with your friend for confirmation.
