Working in a Central Triage area of a large medical firm, should the caller be addressed as "baby", honey...?

Perhaps a different approach is warranted ...

Dear Sandi,

Thank you for your question. Using a salutation such as "baby" or "honey" in a business environment is very poor etiquette and can be regarded as disrespectful. Callers should be addressed with Mr, Mrs or Ms preceding their last name. If the answering person does not know the last name, then a simple "Sir" or "Mam" is perfectly proper conveying the right amount of deference between employee and client.

Hope this help.

Kind regards,
