Graduation gift for brother of my daughter's best friend?

We received a graduation announcement and invitation to an "open house" celebration from the brother of our daughter's best friend.

We are cordial with the parents, and in fact we frequent their place of business. They refer to our daughter as their "other daughter". However, we can count on one hand the number of words we have said to the brother over the past 5 years.

Should we send a cash gift?

Also, when our daughter and her friend(s) graduates next year, should we give gifts to all her friends as well?

Thank you!

Gifting Friends

Hello,

If your question is whether or not you are obligated to bring a gift for the brother you hardly know, my answer is no. In fact, rarely are we obligated to give a gift unless we want to and can give it with an open heart. This situation does not seem to fit the description. I’ll leave the final decision up to you.
