Graduation Dilemma

My boyfriend, of over 2 years, and I broke up on May 6, 2020; 2 weeks ago this Tuesday. His daughter is graduating high school on May 22nd. Should I send her a gift and card? If so, how should I get the address? I don't want to contact my ex.

Janet,

Although it is thoughtful of you to think of your former boyfriend’s daughter at the time of her graduation, it is generally considered poor manners to contact close family members after a break up without the ex partner’s permission or knowledge. If you had a truly close relationship with the daughter making this important to you, then contact him to get her address. Acrimonious breakups can have a nasty ripple effect through the family. Good manners do not allow us to cause embarrassment or bad feelings among those involved.
