Do I still have a mother in law

by A Simmons
(UK )

Ok I was made a widow a few years ago but I never know how to refer to my late husbands mother is she still my mother in law or not. Secondly I'm getting married again next year so does this mean I will have two mother in laws. I have googled this question time and time again and can not seem to get an answer.

Dear A.

Your deceased spouse’s mother is your former mother in law. If you remain single and in touch with your husbands family, you may want to continue referring to her as your mother in law. That is up to you. If you remarry, however, she becomes your former mother in law.

She may also simply be your friend!
