Do I need to bring a gift to my wife's retirement party later this afternoon?

My wife is retiring from her practice and there is a retirement party for her at the hospital where she has worked. I have ordered 2 dozen beautiful roses and they will be there before we arrive.

What I really need to know is do I need to bring a gift for my wife at this party? Or, is it appropriate for me to give a gift privately on her last day and let her colleagues be responsible foro a collective gift?
