Baby gift for ex coworker?

So a co-worker of mine at a job I had last year is pregnant with her first child. We got a long great and have stayed in touch whenever I'm in town. I was wondering if it is appropriate for me to give her a present? I did not give our boss a baby gift when she had her first kid in the past few months that I have not been working there or been around visiting. Is it bad taste to give the one a gift over the other? Should I just forgo the gift altogether? I am really only able to give the gift to her in her office and cannot do it privately somewhere else.
