announcing actual monetary amounts from scholarship for specific students during awards night

would like to know if it is proper for administration to announce the actual monetary amount awarded by universities and colleges during high school award night for some students? Seems this is private information and also could possibly lend itself to other students feeling left out that did not receive scholarship awards. Thank you, Debbie

This can be a touchy situation on many levels. Add to that the reluctance most people have to discussing money and the inquiry is enlarged ten fold. Obviously, there will be many different opinions dependant upon the point of view of each person involved. While I agree that this type of public announcement can cause some discomfort, it can also give hope to those who may be working toward a such a monetary gift themselves. It is not rude or poor taste to make these announcements and most schools do so because they are proud of their winning students.

I hope this helps,
